I was recently asked to review somebody’s profile. I don’t have the time to do that, however, I do have the time to provide some general comments.
Remember – there are potentially millions of people who will look at your profile, so take your time with it.
First of all – creating a profile is hard work.
Secondly – the profile must be directly connected to your business goals. LinkedIn is about business. Its not about fun or family. Facebook and other social networks are about these these things.
Your LinkedIn Profile is a marketing document and therefore it needs to be considered as such.
LinkedIn profiles are read by google. So – if you want to be found through google, use lots of words and use them carefully.
Since your LinkedIn Profile is a marketing document, follow the marketing process.
Think long and hard about who you want to read your profile. Write down a detailed description of the that person. What they are interested in. What their business is. What they are looking at LinkedIn profile’s for.
Every word of your profile must have that single person mind. Everybody who is similar to that person will read your profile.
Your profile has to be directly connect to your goals (yes I AM REPEATING myself) The profile must be clear about what you are looking for and trying to achieve. With that in mind – people will know immediately if they should be part of your business world.
Your profile must be written in the format of what the reader wants. Not what you want. A simple technique is to change every “I” and “me” sentence into a “you” sentence. The focuses the words and the sentences into something that the reader will want. And in result will be that the reader will want whatever you are offering.
