Wow!!

I am impressed.

Go right now buy a copy and then subscribe to
Success Magazine

Hmm – you are still reading? I guess you want to know why I am so strong on this?

I am going to tell you what’s great about the magazine, what I don’t like, and why I think you should run out an subscribe immediately.

Why would I want you to go out and spend your hard earned money on a magazine? I don’t own any shares in it. I haven’t been asked to write for it. Yet I believe its important for everybody to subscribe to it.

Even though everything you could ever want on to read and hear about success is on the Internet and you could get your fill of it for free. You can find Push To The Front or How to Succeed; or Stepping-stones to Fame and Fortune on my site or any of the other great books in my online Library.

I do have a reason, and I will share it with you a little later.

Success Magazine was started by Orison Swett Marden in the early 1900′s. Marden’s purpose was to teach and show people how to become successful. The magazine has been owned or edited by many of the great’s including Napoleon Hill.

Which is all fine and dandy – but, who cares?

You do. It means that the magazine in its latest reincarnation will be compared with all the previous versions. This means the publishers, the editors, the writers, and even the advertisers all have an amazing high standard to live up to.

Everybody in the 11 billion success industry will be looking at the magazine and evaluating it for a whole number of different reasons.

Will it be a competitor?

Will it be an opportunity?

Will I get to be mentioned in it?

Should I advertise in it?

How come I wasn’t asked to submit an article?

All these questions mean that the standard for the magazine has to be high or it will fail immediately. It will fail because industry (such as me) will trash it and the people who want the material won’t readers. Everybody in the industry has a following, and that following makes or breaks a magazine. Several thousand people come and read my site each week, my recommendations have some influence. And I am just one of a several hundred that will be writing articles on the magazine.

Enough said about why the industry wants the magazine to be good.

Why do the readers of success materials expect from the magazine?

Let’s start with who the reader is.

The reader of Success Magazine is anybody thinking about success and represents five different types of people. That is significant. The road to success is a long one and the people who read and make success part of their life have different needs depending on the level they are at.

  1. Success starts with the desire to understand why a person is not accomplishing more with their life. There are unmet needs and they irritate.
  2. The second level is the understanding that success is something that successful people work at. That is why there are successful people in life. At this level, a person begins to understand its not just luck.
  3. At the third level the person begins to realize that it is possible for them to also become successful. And they begin start to consider their options.
  4. The fourth level starts when they make the choice to become successful.
  5. The fifth and highest level is when the person takes action to become successful. The fifth level never ends, all that changes is the actions the person takes.

Once a person starts to take action and actually do something, They are on the road to success.. The first action may not be correct, but what ever the action is, its a first step which will lead to a second step, and so on and so forth.

It doesn’t matter if you use Zale’s Success Through Balance approach, Brian Tracy’s Maximum Achievement, Napoleon Hill’s Law of Success, Tony Robbin’s Awaken The Giant Within, or any of the other dozen methods. As long as you find one that works for you.

So what does this long introduction have to do with the magazine Success?

The magazine has content that is for readers at all levels. The articles provide review of some standards like setting goals and reviewing where you stand. It looks at success from many different levels. Many people become uni-focused, the articles force you out of this habit.

It has articles from some of the best success thinkers in the world. Included were articles from Brian Tracy, Jeffery Gitomer, Og Mandino, Chris Widener, Jim Rohn, and Connie Podesta to name a few. If you don’t know who some of these people are, its worth it to expand your horizons.

Needless to say, the magazine is well laid out and the photography is excellent.

Enough Rah! Rah! – I do have a few complaints about the magazine, but these reflect my personal preferences rather than anything systemic. Some people might actually think that what I am complaining about are some of the better parts of the magazine.

I like meaty articles. I am voracious reader and therefore expect longer deeper articles, which the magazine does not have. The articles are short and tightly focused. Each one has a purpose and a message to tell. I am a fan of the Economist and National Geographic which has lots of background material, etc.. Unfortunately the articles in the magazine are like candy – enjoyable but not filling. I would much prefer that they add one or two substantial articles. Time magazine is generally pretty fluffy, but every so often they do create some subtstanial editions. I think Success – The Magazine should have at least one long and well thought through article.

The second complaint is there is a lack of history in the magazine. The Success Magazine is over 100 years old. Much of what we read now is almost a repeat of what was written 100 years ago. (I think many of the “Leaders” just rewrite old articles and add their name to it)

My third complaint is that there is nothing negative in the magazine. It doesn’t deal with the reality of the world. I am a firm believer in Positive Mental Attitude (PMA), but, I also read the obituaries. (I love the life stories) Some times, some days, life doesn’t go well. And no amount of finding the blessings will overcome a death or disaster. An article or two on this topic or how to help people who don’t want to be helped would be an asset to the magazine.

My last complaint,, is not about what is in the magazine, rather what is missing from the magazine. It would be useful, interesting, and exciting for readers to reread articles from the first editions of Success magazine and Hill’s the Golden Rule.

When I was a kid, Somebody reproduced the weekly Liberty magazine from 20′s and 30′s. It was fantastic. I loved it. I learned a lot of history and what people were thinking at the time. And that people haven’t really changed in many years. Obviously since the reprint is no longer around, there wasn’t that much interest or profit in it. But, Success Magazine would be that much better if it reproduced an article each month, in the original type and layout from the different incarnations of the magazine. And don’t forget the ads!

Now I have told you about what’s in the magazine and what I don’t like about it.

Now, let me tell you why you need to run out and get a copy instantly!!!!

Included in the magazine is a CD and on the other side is a DVD. Pretty cool, eh?

On the CD side they have Earl Nightingale telling Russell Conwell’ Acres Of Diamonds, Napoleon Hill’s the key to success, and an Orison Swett Marden talk. The Napoleon Hill talk and the Earl Nightingale talks sort of fill my nostalgia fix.

On the DVD side there are four talks including one with Donald Trump and another with Og Mandino, Amazing stuff.

The CD/DVD thing is totally amazing and makes the magazine well worth its cover price.
