I call LinkedIn “Facebook for Adults”.

As you know, I love LinkedIn. And if you are job hunting, its the most powerful tool available to you in your job hunt plan. Job hunting is one of the most important reasons why people use LinkedIn.

Write Your Profile For The Person Hiring You

The most important thing about job hunting on LinkedIn is to make sure your profile is written for the person that you want to hire you. Ignore everybody else. Ignore your friends. Ignore your previous co-workers.

Make your profile shine to the perfect person to hire you.

Connect To The Right People

You have a limit of 3,000 invitations. It seems like a lot, but they disappear quickly. Make sure you are connected to as many people in your target companies as you can be. (Learn about target companies with the Guerrilla Job Hunting kit)

Why? Because when somebody at your target company wants to check you out – your profile will show up for them. You will be a second level connection.

First impressions count for a lot on LinkedIn.

When searching LinkedIn and your name shows up, they see your name, your picture and your headline.

Make sure your photo is a positive reinforcement for your personal brand. Make sure you have a good appearance.

Only show your dog only if you are a breeder. Only show yourself  snowboarding if you are an athlete or are selling winter sports equipment.

Show a clear picture of you smiling and looking like the best person around.

Don’t make the Name something cute or have fancy characters. Keep it simple and to the point.

Make the headline compelling and to the point. If you are a salesperson say something like – “I Make Sales For Manufacturing Companies Increase”

It tells people what you do and it identifies the companies you want to work for. Use the rest of the profile to prove your claim.

Attention is everything online. No employer will click through and read your profile unless you first
grab their eyeballs.

Use effective job titles on your profile.

The profile is your online resume. You have lots of real estate, use it effectively. Don’t put dumb detailed stuff in.

Make a compelling case for yourself.

Use all the resume writing techniques that are in the Guerrilla Job Hunting kit.

This was a bonus my Monday Morning Job Hunting help. I have taken material provided to me by Kevin Donlin and David Perry, co-creators of the Guerrilla Job Search System.

Kevin and David have been interviewed by CNN, New York Times, Fortune magazine, and the Christian Science Monitor about their method to finding a job.
