The ‘La Inmaculada’ community bank is made up of six women and one man who are friends and acquaintances. They live in a community in Santa Ana (Cuenca) parish. This is a cold-climate area but the people are very warm and they maintain the culture and traditions of their parents. They work in animal raising and farming and many people work in the city and return home at night. The members of this group are very charismatic. They are tenacious people who work every day to improve their financial situation and get ahead in life together with their families.
One of the members of this group is Ana Lucía who lives in a community in Santa Ana parish. Ana Lucía is 22 years old, married, and has two children from her marriage who are 6 and 3 years old. Her eldest son attends a local elementary school. Her husband works in construction as a builder. They own the house in which they live, having obtained it through their joint work.
Ana Lucía remains at home and cares for her children who are still young. While she is at home, she raises pigs, guinea pigs and rabbits which she sells when she has a financial need to do so.
This is Ana Lucía’s third loan through her community bank which she was invited to join by a friend. She will invest her loan money in buying chickens and feed for them.
Ana Lucía’s goal is to buy herself a vehicle.
