A loan of $2,775 helps Samiya to purchase clothing and cosmetics stock for the holiday season and the new school year.Samiya opened a clothing store in a central location of her town. After gaining experience and proving she could manage her business well and earn extra monthly income, Samiya was ready to expand her enterprise. She now sells gifts, trinkets and cosmetics in addition to children’s and adults’ clothing. Samiya needed this loan to purchase clothing and cosmetics stock for the holiday season and the beginning of the school year. Samiya is opening a savings account for her children and wants to ensure support for their education.

Koret Israel Economic Development Funds (KIEDF) launched its direct lending program, SAWA, in 2006 to help low-income and unemployed populations within Israel create independent income-generating activities. SAWA currently serves Bedouin women in the Negev, Arab Israeli women in northern Israel and Jewish Israeli women. SAWA loans support a wide variety of small business types including consumer goods sales, grocery stores, animal raising, hairdressing, sewing, and day care. SAWA continues to grow and serve new populations while maintaining a loss rate of less than 3%.
