Brian Tracy

On www.ZaleTabakman.ca you will find a short list of people and content that I recommend. Before I am willing to recommend that you spend your money, or your time I need to spend mine. I don’t think it fair if it was any way else, and I don’t think you should either.

Furthermore, when I give a recommendation, I try to explain exactly why and when the recommendation is made. This way, when you do something because “Zale recommended it,” I am confident you have made a good choice, both emotionally and logically.

It is my reputation that is at stake!

This article is a continuation of Creating Your Success Through Balance which describes the Skills we need to create Balance in the Five areas of our life that is important.

The ratio of people who have heard of Brian Tracy but not have not actually read or listened to his content is significant. I think this is because Brian is so widely promoted on the Internet, that people recognize his name and face just from the ads. A few paragraphs of describing Brian Tracy will help readers understand who he is, what he stands for and why he is so popular. I have included how I was introduced to Brian Tracy and my Product Red Nano.

Here is the corporate Brian Tracy description (emphasis mine):

His exciting talks and seminars on Leadership, Selling, Self-Esteem, Goals, Strategy, Creativity and Success Psychology bring about immediate changes and long-term results.

As you can see, Brian certainly has credibility. But what does it mean to you? Can he make a change in your life?

Each of us is different, and each of us has different challenges in setting and achieving goals. And many of these challenges, while different in specifics and common in many aspects. Brian’s starting big thing, is his ability to help people set and and achieve their goals. This is basis of his approach and everything else is built on it.

Brian identifies and describes many of the different challenges people have a) setting goals, b) not staying focused on those goals, and c) not taking the actions required to implement those goals.

As its been said countless times, half the battle is understanding the problem.

Identifying the some of the specifics for these three problems has enable Brian to craft solutions that touch and are meaningful to each of us.

For some of us, just a description of the problem is enough of a start to make the break through we need.

For other challenges, having a some specific strategies can force us to overcome the problem.

This combination gets any person who wants to achieve great things in their life started. We are all thinking creative people and we are able to expand on the simplest ideas.

The next step is to implement the different skills, and Brian has a wide selection of skills and ways to apply these skills. Starting from improving sales to raising children to increasing our own self confidence.

Brian body of work is consistent and complete with all the great giants. As you will find as you read the hundreds of pages of this site, I read and continue to read many of the giants of the past with the goal of teaching what I have learned. To do this means I need to read and listen to success writers every day. I write and teach every day. Though this “hard work” I am slowly becoming an expert in success literature.  This is why I am in awe of Brian Tracy and his accomplishments. Every talk, book, article of Brian’s summarizes a wide range of sources, presented in a structure and an organization that makes it understandable and doable.

Brian continually teaches explains the application of he calls “The Natural Laws” of human endeavour. If we use these laws correctly, we can achieve anything. Brian shows us how to make these laws work.

Here is a summary of Brian’s laws, while the names are his, the descriptions are mine.

  1. The Law of Control - which means you can control the direction of your life. Its the law!
  2. The Law of Cause and Effect – You are living the effects of previous choices. Setting goals will change your new choices.
  3. The Law of Belief – What you believe will effect what you are.
  4. The Law Of Expectations – You will get what you expect.
  5. The Law pf Attraction - You know this one! You attract what you expect.
  6. The Law Of Subconscious Activity - Have your subconscious do most of your work for you.
  7. The Law Of Substitution – Think happy thoughts whenever you have negative thoughts.
  8. The Law of Concentration - What ever you concentrate on most will be what happens to you.
  9. The Law of Superconscious Activity – Anything you think of regularly will happen.

To expand on the point about the giants, Brian’ weaves in the concepts and the approaches of giants from the past and modern writers who are are becoming classics. From the past comes Wattles, Haamel, Napoleon Hill, and Dr. Norman Vincent Peale and from the present are people like Stephen Covey and John Gray (Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus). The result is a complete whole and multi-facetted.

Brian started by teaching sales people set and to achieve their goals, but the skills and self-confidence that sales people need, we all need and can benefit from. What he has done is taken that core content and applied it and expanded it in many different areas and many different ways.

My Brian Tracy story is pretty simple, I first heard of Brian Tracy when I began studying the sales skills. I listened to one of his tapes and was immediately impressed. Later, when I received an offer for one of his teleseminars, I signed up. I feel the teleseminars seem to be the best deal, since you get a book, and several CD’s and get to hear Brian live, and the opportunity to ask a question during the chat.  I was surprised later to receive a transcript of the teleseminar, a MP3 of the teleseminar. It was probably mentioned, but I didn’t notice it. My Brian Tracy library has multiple books and countless CD’s now. I have shared some with my 20 Year old son and my 16 year old daughter. That hasn’t worked out as well as I expected, since they haven’t asked for seconds, but, time will tell.

As you can imagine, I am still listening to everything from the last time I purchased. Once I have listened to all the current content, I will signup for something else. I find the listening is good enough, the book is sitting on a shelf waiting to make its way to bathroom reading.

An interesting question about Brian – Will Brian Tracy last through the ages like a Napoleon Hill and Dale Carnegie or will he become important but obscure like Wattles and Haanel? While its hard to compare practically, Brian’s books are as popular now as Dale Carnegie was in the 1940′s. So the answer is a definite yes, 100 years from now your great-granddaughter will be telling her friend about your margin notes from a Brian Tracy books.

Like the great’s Brian’s content is organized, structured, and consistent. He has a pleasant listening voice, but speaks rapidly and repeats himself very infrequently, so sometimes I find myself replaying sections of the recording. Most recording are broken into small sections, so its pretty easy to navigate.
