Lessons In Leadership – Know What You Want

in Zale Tabakman

This article isn’t from the Talmud – but its such a good story I wanted to share it.

There was this young religious man. He wanted to get into Heaven. He had learned in the Talmud that one of the sure ways to get their was to have a horrible evil wife.

He went to his Rabbi, and told him what the kind of wife he wanted and why.

The Rabbi didn’t think this was such a good idea, but after being pressed said he would help. The Rabbi felt that even a horrible woman deserves a husband.

So, one girl was proposed with a bad temper to the young man. She wasn’t mean enough.

Another was proposed, with a reputation of anger. The young man was not too impressed with her.

As you can imagine, this went on for quite a while. And it was hard to find such a young lady for this man.

I mean, who is really going to say that a young woman is evil.

Eventually, a suitable young woman was found. They met, they agreed to a marriage and they got married.

The next morning, the new wife woke her new husband up, and she looked gorgeous. She said to him, “What would you like for breakfast?” He said, “Whatever”, she said “Fine.”

He comes out for breakfast, and there is a spread fit for a king. Everything you would want, fresh coffee, juice, eggs, the whole thing. He figures something is up. But, everything tastes wonderful, conversation was pleasant, not at all what he expected.

The next day, the same thing happens,  and the day after. This goes on for weeks. The young man is wondering what happened. You can imagine what he is thinking.

Finally, he can’t take it anymore.

He confronts her, “What is going on here? Why are you treating me so well?”

She gets a twinkle in her eye and says

“Do you think I am going to be your ticket to heaven?”

The young man got what he asked for, but not what he wanted.
