Knowing What We Want

in Ivy Exec,Job Hunting,Zale Tabakman

Personal experience and teaching others has taught me knowing what I want is difficult. We all understand the basics such as good health, being in love, having money, have nice material things.

Where we fall down is the specifics. What job we want, which is the best area to live for us, how to make some choices. There are methods to finding these things out. We don’t have to stumble around in the dark.

I was able to find my passion for writing and teaching.

I am a religious person so you would think getting my values straight it would be easy.

Its not.

Its difficult how to apply my values in my every day existence.  Where do I spend my time? What do I first? What do to make sure I am happy and productive? I am pulled in different directions by my kids, my friends, my advisers, my pleasures, and my habits. To name just a few.

Many times I want to go with the flow. But, while the flow we are in may good and valid, it may not be the best flow for me.

Once I found personal clarity in these things, found my passion, understood how to apply my personal value system, my choices became easier. I was able to achieve more. Good things started to happen.

Knowing our motivations is fundamentally important.

These are important to job hunters and overall career management.

Here are a few discussion questions to help you.

QUESTIONS TO BETTER UNDERSTAND YOUR VALUES

  1. What are you passionate about?
  2. What are the values of your past, present, and future employers?
  3. What sorts of strategies can companies utilize to promote a positive culture?

Here is a link to a full webinar recording from Ivy Exec to help.

Its from Ainka Fulani, Wharton MBA and owner of Breakthrough, a holistic coaching firm, for a brief discussion on how you can begin to connect what’s important to you, evaluate the values of a potential employer and explore your evolving relationship to trade offs in support in support of a job search, if not an overall career, that brings you satisfaction.
