Job Hunters Must Leverage The Thousands Of Recruiters On LinkedIn

in Goals,Job Hunting,LinkedIn,Success Through Balance

Success is all about leveraging what you have to create something bigger. It applies to what ever goal you are trying to achieve.

For me, my greatest skills are my ability to think clearly and communicate thoughts and ideas in a structured logical organized manner. My skills allow me to motivate and help people deal with individual challenges so that they can achieve their personal goals. While I can and do this for people one at a time, I am more effective in groups of 10, 100, and a 1,000 people.

My challenge is then how to get in front of the largest number of people and make a living at it.

The Job Hunter has the same challenge. The Job Hunter must find leverage is to get them in front of the largest number of people who have jobs available.  These are the employers and recruiters looking to hire people. Recruiting firms have more candidates than jobs and established recruiters have long lists of people in their  database. Even with all these people available, every placement challenges the to find the “Ideal candidate”.

One of the best leverages you can use is LinkedIn. To leverage LinkedIn, you need to be found by the recruiters and be seen as an “Ideal Candidate”.

Ideal candidates are the best asset a recruiter has. Its a win-win-win proposition for you, the recruiter and the employer. Being the Ideal Candidate gets you the job, the recruiter gets paid, and the employer has a solution to their business problem.

You must understand that LinkedIn has become the main source used by the top recruiters to find job candidates.

Recruiters see LinkedIn as a treasure of potential candidates. In fact, many job recruiting efforts start and end with LinkedIn.  Small companies and large companies recognize that LinkedIn is one of the most cost effective ways of finding candidates.

For you, LinkedIn levels the playing field when you are looking for a job. It makes you available to every recruiter on the planet. With minimal effort on your part, you have the same opportunity as everyone else to find a job.

For the recruiter, the 30 million people on LinkedIn means that there are many opportunities to find the “Ideal Candidate”.

But you and the recruiter have a similar problem. The vast number of people on LinkedIn. For you, these people represent competition, for the recruiter, they represent too many people to search through.

For the recruiter, each additional person makes it both harder to find the “Ideal Candidate” from the thousands of candidates provided by LinkedIn.

You and the the recruiter want the same solution. The recruiter wants the “Ideal Candidate” to be first in the list, and when you are the “Ideal Candidate”, you want to be first on the recruiters list.

To get a job, you must take LinkedIn seriously. If you treat it like a Job Board such as Workopolis, CareerBuilder, Working.com, or Monster, you will fail miserably.

To be seen first you need to harness all the power that LinkedIn can provide you.

You need to create a LinkedIn marketing program that will move you to the top of every search made of a company.

To be found on LinkedIn, you need to some skills on LinkedIn:

  1. Create a LinkedIn presence that is found by recruiters.
  2. Create a LinkedIn presence that creates the desire for the recruiter to contact you.

A solid LinkedIn presence consists of the following:

  2. An ability to express yourself in writing. Learn to sell yourself in writing. This skill is required for your profile and using LinkedIn Answers.
