Everybody likes a free sample.
Everybody understands the concept of a gift certificate.
Everybody has some project that needs doing.
And everybody likes something for nothing.
And if you are good at what you do at job, then a free sample of what you can do it is the best way to get a job.
Send a gift certificate to the companies you want to work for.
The gift certificate provides an offer for a fixed amount of your time or for a particular piece of work you are willing to do.
For example, you could offer to rework one of your white papers into a specific review of the company.
Your offer should be focused on the job you want to be doing if they were to hire you.
After doing the job follow up with a quick survey on your level of quality etc that they must send back to you.
Action Steps:
- Gift certificate must make clear what the value is. Perhaps $250 of your time, and then make sure you spend ONLY that amount of time – if the job they asked was too much for the time – maybe they will engage you in a contract to finish it.
- Measure hourly salary by taking your salary, divide it in half and then knock off three zeros. That will give you your hourly wage. For example $50,000 a year person makes $25 per hour.
- Arrive on time, do a great job, and leave your work area absolutely spotless.
- Print the certificates on a postcard from Vistaprint
or Uprinting
- Get a referral or testimonial if you don’t get hired.
