Everyday people senior executives get a newspaper, magazines, trade publications.
Everyday they read it or scan it looking for different things, including solutions to their problems.
In these 77 Guerrilla Job Hunting Tips we have talked about creating different solutions to your customer’s needs.
Oops!! How silly of me – I didn’t mean customer – I meant your potential employer’s needs.
Or did I make a mistake?
Anyways, why not get a little more aggressive with a potential employer?
Why not take out your own ad?
Here is one approach to it:
Have a title which describes your ideal position, like: Cost Accountant, Project Manager, Marketing Manager, etc.
Bold the title and describe the benefits of hiring you in 25 words or less. The more space you use the more it costs. Try using acronyms. For example, a cost accountant could advertise: CA 10 yrs exp in manufacturing. Excel, AccPac, Ref. More info call toll free 1-888 number (you can get a cheap toll free number from Ring Central)
Here is second approach and somewhat better approach:
Have a title which describes one of the twelve problems you can solve. “Want to reduce cost of sales in your …”
The ad will be simple – Free 10 page report on ideas to solve the problem. Includes a comparison of six solutions. Call 1-888- number (Get a cheap toll free number from Ring Central)
Action Steps:
- Bold your headline so it jumps off the page. It usually costs more but the cost is minimal
- Plan on running it for 2-4 weeks.
- Think about the response rate – you want the busiest days for classifieds are – usually Saturday and Wednesday – but ask the sales rep at the newspaper.
- Don’t get flipped out if you get only a few calls, you will generally need to run an add several times to get descent response.
- If you run the second approach – don’t be surprised if end up with a consulting contract or two
- If you use a trade magazine, ask if you can provide them an article for a free ad. You can kill two birds with one stone, you get an article demonstrating your expertise and you get an advertisement for hiring you.
- Ask if you can run a box ad and pay only for actual leads – you’ll pay a higher amount but you’re only paying for results. This is like pay per click.
- Consider running a Google PPC ads as well – that is a whole other ball of wax.

Job hunters who use “Click and Apply” wonder why they are not getting interviews and ultimately taking far too long to get a job. I hope you are not using “Click and Apply” as your major tactic. You have many more strategies and tactics to make an effective job hunt.
The only Job Hunting system I recommend is the Guerrilla Job Search System.
The system works, because it helps you do what you do best. Kevin and David have been interviewed by Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Fortune magazine, and the Christian Science Monitor about their method to finding a job.
