in Face to Face Networking,LinkedIn,Success Through Balance

I have been asked to provide some of my LinkedIn requests.

Here are some of my standard responses that I modify to a specific person.

My Standard Reply- Note I attach several PDF articles of interest

Hi <<firstname>>,

Welcome to my party! Thanks for connecting up.
I have attached a couple of articles that you might find interesting. If you like them:

a) Feel free to pass them around

b) Please contact 3 Canadians in your LinkedIn network and tell them about LinkedIn Toronto.

If would like to be kept informed about LinkedIn Toronto – please let me know.

If there is a way we can do some business in Toronto – please let me know.

If you want to connect up with somebody in my network – please let me know.

If you or you know somebody who is looking for a job, have them send me a resume – I have relations with a number of recruiters and can send it out for you. Please send a cover letter and a resume in a single PDF file. It makes it easier for everybody to read.

Take Care.

My Reply If I Know The Person Is A Job Hunter

Hi <<firstname>>,

Welcome to my party! Thanks for connecting up.

Now start searching my network to FIND your next job TODAY!

Here are some quick tips:

  1. Spend time on your profile. Look at my profile – I have spent hours on it and I keep updating it.
  2. Search for people similar to yourself – see what they do and how they present themselves.
  3. You profile is an online Resume – make it sparkle – make it so a person WANTS to meet with you.
  4. Don’t be nervous – upload your Outlook/Outlook express db to LinkedIn. LinkedIn will tell you whom you already know on LinkedIn. They were nervous too – but you are looking for a job, so don’t be shy!
  5. Start inviting those people to join your network. DO NOT USE A STANDARD INVITATION – customize it so its YOUR very own.
  6. Look for contacts in companies that you want to work for – YOU may find the corporate recruiter.
  7. Look in the job boards.
  8. There is a whole world of LinkedIn people to meet through the yahoo forums. Go to http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/MyLinkedinPowerForum/ to get started.

If you want to connect up with somebody in my network – please send a request for an introduction. If its reasonable I always say YES.

If it was a job request reply

Hi <<firstname>>,

I can’t help with this position but I frequently get people looking for jobs. I would like to send them your way to see if they can be useful for you.

Is this something that you would want? I can’t do much more than forward their e-mail info to you.

If I know them, I will add anything to it.

Assuming you want this….
As well, I understand in some circumstances you will be paid to place these people.

WHEN you are paid (and only when you are paid) I would like a finders fee.

I would like to receive 10% to a MAXIMUM of $500 to cover the time I spend reviewing and helping job hunters. This is not my main source of income, but it does take a lot of time and effort.

I will not be letting the candidates know your contact information. You can choose to contact them or not.

If you search my network and request and introduction, I will forward those along and I do not expect to be compensated for that, however a donation of a latte to my current marathon run would be appreciated.

Take Care.

Zale

As you can see, I try my best to be helpful to all the people I contact. The articles I send out can be found in another post.

As you can also see, I add the e-mail and contact to my local Goldmine database – so I have a history of my interactions with each person. When you have a large network, its helpful to be able to remember things about that person. I have a great memory and I love people – but I interact with so many people, I need a system to ensure I am able to treat everyone with respect that they deserve.

Thank you Alex for asking for the request.

[July 16th - Since I created my site, I no longer provide such a detailed response. I just inform the person that I have a site and it has lots of LinkedIn articles. I get plenty of Thank You's - so I think the system works better.]
