Job hunting is lonely and its challenging, unless you are in involved in it on a day by day basis it can be trying on your loved ones.
There are number of different solutions to getting help for this problem:
- Getting a professional coach,
- Being part of a government job program,
- Joining a job club.
These all work. But, there is nothing as good as having your own job-search buddy.
The single job of your “buddy” is to keep you motivated and honest with yourself.
Few people can work well in isolation, but that’s exactly what happens when you’re looking for a job.
The typical job hunter sits at home night and day doing research, making calls, and writing letters.
Life becomes very lonely very quickly.
It’s tough to stay motivated and committed to your job search.
It’s important to have someone else to bounce ideas off who will make a “big deal” over your daily accomplishments, because you’re not likely to do it for yourself.
When you have a job search buddy, you have to do the same thing as they do.
When you have a Job Search buddy, you also start to form a Mastermind as well.
To help you get a job search buddy, I have a special group on LinkedIn called Zale’s Guerrilla Job Hunters its a special group where job hunters who believe in the Guerrilla Job Search method are hanging out.
Action Steps:
- While I recommend that your buddy be also looking for a job, they don’t have to be.
- Each day, have a 10 minute phone call, each person lists the five things they commit to accomplishing that day. It is not necessary for you to provide details of the why.
- When either of you slacks off, the buddy must ask why and help overcome it. No Empathy!
- Each of you holds the other accountable, for both the quality and quantity of work being done.
- Your job as a Buddy is to keep the other Buddy motivated.
- A secondary goal as a Buddy is to listen for opportunities that are not being followed up
- A third goal – is to tell your Buddy when they should drop something
- You are not to do the work for your buddy, just review things.

This article is just a small sample of how you can do to take control of your Job hunt and make it effective. I work closely with the two experts in the field, Kevin Donlin and David Perry, co-creators of the Guerrilla Job Search System.
Job hunters who use “Click and Apply” wonder why they are not getting interviews and ultimately taking far too long to get a job. I hope you are not using “Click and Apply” as your major tactic. You have many more strategies and tactics to make an effective job hunt.
The only Job Hunting system I recommend is the Guerrilla Job Search System.
The system works, because it helps you do what you do best. Kevin and David have been interviewed by Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Fortune magazine, and the Christian Science Monitor about their method to finding a job.

If you want to know why I think the Guerrilla Job Search System is so effective for job hunters read my review of it here.
