I Can Help You Find Your Diamonds In Your LinkedIn Network
My network is now over 7,200 people which means connecting to me adds over 1,900,000 connections from just from me alone! I don’t know how big your LinkedIn network is, but I am sure I can have a great impact on it, and the best part? Once we are connected, I work everyday at growing our network.
I want to help you find diamonds in our network, and the diamonds are there! These diamonds can help you achieve your goals!
Why?
Because each and everyone of us needs people to help us. And we can each help others as well. It’s a win-win solution, all we need to do is find the person that we need and the person that needs us. This e-letter provides a couple of ideas of how to connect to the right person.
LinkedIn connects you to people offline as well! I recently was looking for a video company to Joint Venture with me for a course I am launching, A LinkedIn contact introduced me to him and he didn’t even belong to LinkedIn. It all started with me posting a question in LinkedIn Answers. And in fact, when I first posted the question, I hadn’t even thought of doing A Joint Venture. I was looking to find out to record the YMCA course I teach.
Why do I say Find the Diamonds? This is a reference to the Acres of Diamonds speech By Russell Cronwell, the founder of Temple University. He gave the speech 6,000 times in the early 1900’s. He used the money he raised by giving the speech to fund Temple University. The speech delivers many messages about success. One message relevant to LinkedIn members is that everything that we want is right in front of us and we don’t need to look far or into another other person’s field to find it. We do however, need to know how to look for it. These e-letters provide you with a mini-course on finding what you want using LinkedIn.
The challenge is how to find the specific diamond in the sea of precious stones that is our LinkedIn network.
I would like to share a powerful idea and effective idea with you.
- Join and Create LinkedIn groups around niche ideas that are important and relevant to you. People who sign up to groups will usually share the enthusiasm for the group as you. Therefore, you will immediately have found something in common with that group member. Don’t worry about the few people who sign up to the group just to extend their reach. They won’t be a problem.
- Send the group members an e-mail as soon as they signup welcoming them to your group. The e-mail should be relevant to the group title, AND NOT A SALES Pitch for you.
- Use the “View Members” link beside a group logo which is on your “My Groups” page, you can further indentify search criteria on the advanced search page. A couple of examples: (1) if you are a runner and are looking for a running partner, join my Marathoners group, then use the location to find another runner near you. (2) Join a LinkedIn group specific to your city. You can then meet others from your city who are part of the group. Always use the profile to determine if the meeting makes sense. Make sure your profile attracts the kinds of people you to contact you. I will give some advice about your profile in a future e-letter.
A key thing to know about finding diamonds, you need to treat your LinkedIn network with respect.
