Most dieters know it as well as the number of calories in their favorite desserts—that “plateau” where weight loss seems to come to a halt, leaving us stranded with nowhere to go but up. Surveys show that 95% of dieters hit this dreaded spot at some point, never to get completely back on track again. What causes this sticking point, and are there ways it can be overcome or perhaps even avoided all together? We posed these questions to Richard B. Kreider, PhD, who’s been directing research for Curves at the Sport and Nutrition Lab at Baylor University and has been studying the science of weight loss for more than 20 years.
